Small files a website stores in your browser. Some are essential to make a site work. Others are optional, and you are entitled to say no to those.
How we ask
When you first arrive, a consent banner asks which categories you accept. Nothing except the strictly necessary cookies loads until you choose. You can change your mind at any time by reopening the banner from the link in the footer.
Strictly necessary
These cannot be turned off, because the site does not work without them.
- Your consent choice. One cookie records which categories you accepted, so you are not asked again on every page.
- WordPress session cookies. Only set if you log in. Ordinary visitors do not get these.
Analytics
We do not currently use analytics cookies on this site. There is no Google Analytics or equivalent running, so nothing is measuring you as you read.
If we add analytics, this page will be updated first, and it would load only after you agreed to it. Refusing would never restrict what you can read.
Set by other companies
- Amazon. When you click an Amazon link, Amazon sets its own cookies to attribute the click to the affiliate programme. Those are governed by Amazon’s policies, not ours.
- Jetpack (Automattic). Site statistics and the social sharing buttons. Governed by Automattic’s policies.
Turning cookies off
- On this site: reopen the consent banner via the footer link and change your choices.
- In your browser: every major browser lets you block or delete cookies. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will break parts of the site.
